This picture is an example of a silhouette picture. This means that the light comes in from behind the picture. This picture works because the flash is coming from behind the subject.

Focus (soft)

This is an example of a photo with soft focus. A photo has soft focus when it is not focusing on anything precisely; it is usually blurred out. This picture works because it’s not really focused on anything, it’s blurred out, but you can still tell what the picture is.
